The Tstud™ is a new engineered building product that uses two lumber members, an internal truss system, and a frothed-in-place closed-cell foam. With just ONE product, the Tstud™ raises the bar on 5 major construction concerns: thermal breaks, structural strength, wind loads, sound transmission and fire/life safety.

Using Batts? This is the Tstud for your next build!

KEY BENEFITS

STRUCTURAL

In straight down vertical testing: three times stronger than #2 2x6's. Four times stronger than 2x4's.

Because of how the R.20 Tstud™ is constructed, it is also a mini header when used as a top plate. Only one R.20 Tstud™ is required when used as a top plate compared to two 2x6’s or 2x4’s in traditional framing which has been done for centuries.

The R.20 Tstud™ is stronger than LSL (laminated strand lumber) or LVL (laminated veneer lumber) stud sized lumber in most applications up to 16’-0” in height depending on wind load conditions. See the wind load tables in the technical evaluation report (TER1603-06 and compare to LSL and LVL studs without lateral bracing). The Tstud™ is able to be used in walls up to 16’ in height.  Keep Reading →

THERMAL

The R.20 tstud™ wall assembly provides a complete* thermal break through the wall – hot or cold.

*99.23% complete thermal break

A built-in foam core gives the R.20 Tstud™ three times the insulation of a conventional wood stud.

The R.20 Tstud™ is the same depth as a 2x6 but offers an impressive initial R-Value of 20 and has a 99.23% complete thermal break through the stud.  Meaning that there isn't a need for continuous rigid insulation to meet and exceed the 2015 energy code in all of the climate zones in North America.

By using the thermally broken R.20 Tstud™: Structural Insulated Framing System, a reduction of 4-7 points on the HERS numbering system is garnered.

By improving the thermal break in the exterior wall with an initial R Value of 20,
24% of the home (framing members) are given a 290% improvement in energy efficiency. Keep Reading →

WIND

Hurricane and seismic testing has passed at 16” and 24” on center spacing. Keep Reading →

SOUND

The R.20 Tstud™ foam core minimizes the sound vibrations through the wall equal to a +6 in sound transmission ratings.

Providing an impressive amount of sound proofing, equivalent to using resilient channel to both sides of a wall.

It can cost thousands to add resilient channel to both sides of wall to reduce sound vibration. The same sound transmission rating is free with a Tstud™ wall. Keep Reading →

FIRE

90% of the Tstud™ remained intact after a 10-minute burn at 3500 degrees.

*soon to be code compliant!

MOLD, ROT, & TERMITE RESISTANT

More information coming soon!

The R.20 Tstud™ will soon offer a coating to protect from the harmful effects of mold, rot (fungal decay) and wood ingesting insects including formosan termites. The R.20 Tstud™ is made to be used on concrete and in infestation areas of North America.
